Scope
GB/T 6324.4-2008 is the English-translated version of 有机化工产品试验方法 第4部分:有机液体化工产品微量硫的测定 微库仑法.
GB/T 6324.4-2008 is Part 4 of GB/T 6324 and sets out the microcoulometric determination of trace sulfur in organic liquid products.
Clause 1 states that this part specifies the test method for the determination of trace sulfur in organic liquid products by microcoulometry and that it applies to samples whose sulfur content lies in the range 0.5 mg/kg to 1000 mg/kg.
Clause 3, printed as PRINCIPLE OF THE METHOD, has the sample gasified and cracked in a gasification tube and carried by a carrier gas into a combustion zone where it burns with oxygen, so that the sulfur is converted into sulfur dioxide; this passes into the titration cell and reacts with the triiodide ion of the electrolyte, the drop in triiodide concentration is sensed between the indicating and the reference electrode against a set bias, the amplified signal drives an electrolysis that replenishes the triiodide at the anode, and the sulfur content of the sample is calculated from the quantity of electricity consumed by Faraday's law of electrolysis.
Clause 4, Reagents, requires recognized analytical reagents and grade two water to GB/T 6682-1992, and calls for a carrier gas of nitrogen, argon or helium and for oxygen, each of volume fraction not less than 99.5%.
The same clause gives two electrolytes, one prepared from potassium iodide with acetic acid solution and one from potassium iodide and sodium azide with glacial acetic acid, both kept in brown bottles in a cool dark place for not more than a month and each carrying its own limits on the halogen, total nitrogen and heavy metal content of the sample, and it names dibenzothiophene, thiophene and dibutyl disulfide of mass fraction not less than 98% as standard substances and iso-octane, n-heptane and hexadecane as solvents, which must show no sulfur integral value under the test conditions.
The draft version on the page ends with 4.6, so the apparatus, procedure and result clauses are not shown, though the foreword places the reaction conditions in 6.2 and the precision requirements in clause 8 and states that reproducibility is new in this edition, that the instrument diagram of the 1986 edition was cancelled, that the electrolyte types were added in 4.4 and the standard substances and solvents in 4.5 and 4.6, and that the scope was widened.
Clause 2 cites GB/T 6682-1992 and GB/T 8170-1987, and the foreword lists the six parts of GB/T 6324. The page gives ICS 71.040 and Chinese classification G15. It replaces GB/T 6324.4-1986, was issued on 2008-05-14 and has applied since 2008-10-01.

Foreword
GB/T 6324 is divided into six sections.
--- Part 1. Liquid water-miscible organic chemical products test;
--- Part 2. Determination of the volatile organic liquid residue after evaporation of the water bath dry;
--- Part 3. Organic Chemical method for the determination of potassium permanganate reducing substance;
--- Part 4. Liquid organic products - Determination of trace sulfur Microcoulomb;
--- Part 5. Organic chemical products of carbonyl compounds content - Volumetric method;
--- Part 6. Organic chemical products Spectrophotomeric carbonyl compounds content.
This section GB/T 6324 Part of.
This Part replaces GB/T 6324.4-1986 "organic liquid products - Determination of trace sulfur Microcoulometry." This portion of the GB/T 6324.4-1986 compared to the main changes are as follows.
--- Expanding the scope of the standard (see Chapter 1);
--- Canceled instrument diagram (3.1, Chapter 5 of this edition 1986 edition);
--- Increased dibenzothiophene and dibutyl sulfide material and two standard iso-octane and cetane two solvents (see 4.5 and 4.6);
--- Increase the types of electrolyte (see 4.4);
--- Redefined the scope of the reaction conditions (1986 version 5.1.4, this version 6.2);
--- Redefined repetitive sample, increasing the reproducibility (1986 edition, Chapter 6, Section 8 of this edition).
1 Scope
GB/T 6324 This section specifies the test methods for trace sulfur in organic liquid product was determined by Microcoulometry.
GB/T 6324 This section applies to the sulfur content in organic liquid product sample in the 0.5mg/kg ~ 1000mg/kg range.

3 PRINCIPLE OF THE METHOD
Samples gasification stage gasification cracking tube and mixed with a carrier gas into the combustion zone is mixed with oxygen and burned, the sulfur is converted to sulfur dioxide, with a carrier gas Went into the titration cell, the electrolyte triiodide ion (I3-) the following reaction.
I3- + SO2 + H2 -> O SO3 + 3I- + 2H +
Titration cell triiodide ion (I3-) concentration decreased, indicating - an indication of the reference electrode and the change and given bias compared this Microcoulometry signal is input to the amplifier and amplified output voltage is applied to the electrodes for electrolysis, electrolysis at the anode the following reaction.
3I -> - I3- + 2e
Consumed triiodide ion (I3-) replenished, the consumption of electricity is the time integral of the electrolysis current, according to Faraday's law of electrolysis Calculate the sulfur content of the sample.
