Scope
GB/T 594-2008 is the English-translated version of 船用外螺纹锻钢截止阀.
GB/T 594-2008 specifies the classification and marking, the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules, the marking, the packaging and the storage of marine forged steel male thread stop valves, which the text calls the cut-off valve.
Clause 1 states that the standard applies to the design, manufacture and acceptance of stop valves in ship piping systems, and records no exclusion. Clause 2, Normative references, cites GB/T 600, GB/T 699-1999, GB/T 700-2006, GB/T 1220-2007, GB/T 1958, GB/T 3032, GB/T 9440-1988, GB/T 12361-2003, GB/T 17107-1997, CB 56 and CB/T 3589-1994.
Clause 3, Classification and Marking, divides the valve into a straight-through type A and a right-angle type B, and its Table 1 gives the basic parameters: nominal pressure PN 4.0 MPa for nominal diameters DN 15 to 32, with fuel, oil, fresh water, air and steam at a temperature not higher than 250 degrees C as the applicable media, and nominal pressure 10.0 MPa for nominal diameters DN 6 to 32, with fuel, oil, fresh water and air.
Subclause 3.3, Structure and basic dimensions, opens by referring the DN6 and DN10 valve to Figure 1 and Table 2, and the draft breaks off there, so the page shows nothing of the clauses on requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging and storage that clause 1 announces.
The foreword states that the standard was proposed by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation and is administered by the piping attachment subcommittee of the National Marine Machinery Standardization Technical Committee, and that against the 1983 edition the material of the DN15 to DN32 valve was changed from Q235-A steel to 20 steel, the structure of the DN6 and DN10 valves was modified, sealing requirements were added for the sealing surface of the stem and the valve cover, and test methods, inspection rules, marking and packaging content were added.
The foreword also names GB/T 594-1976 and GB/T 594-1983 as the editions previously replaced. It replaces GB/T 594-1983, was issued on 2008-02-14 and has applied since 2008-09-01.

Foreword
This standard replaces GB/T 594-1983 "Marine forged steel male thread stop valve." The standards are compared with the GB/T 594-1983 following main changes.
--- The shut-off valve DN15 ~ DN32 material by Q235-A steel to 20 steel;
--- Modified DN6, DN10 shutoff valve structure;
--- Increasing the stem and the valve cover sealing surface sealing requirements;
--- Increased test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, and other content. The standard proposed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the Marine forged steel male thread stop valve (hereinafter referred to as the cut-off valve) classification and marking requirements, test methods, inspection rules, Logo, packaging and storage.
This standard applies to ships piping systems shutoff valve design, manufacture and acceptance.

3 Classification and Marking
3.1 Type
Shut-off valve is divided into two types as follows.
A straight-through type --- shut-off valve;
Type B --- right angle stop valve.
3.2 Basic parameters
The basic parameters of shut-off valves are shown in Table 1.
Table 1 Basic parameters of the shut-off valve: types A and B, nominal pressure PN 4.0 MPa, nominal diameter DN 15 to 32 mm, applicable medium fuel, oil, fresh water, air and steam at a temperature not higher than 250 °C; nominal pressure PN 10.0 MPa, nominal diameter DN 6 to 32 mm, applicable medium fuel, oil, fresh water and air.
3.3 Structure and basic dimensions
