Foreword

This document was issued on 13 March 2024 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the PRC and the State Administration for Market Regulation and takes effect on 1 August 2024.

It is a GB/T standard: recommended rather than compulsory, but it is the text a Chinese reviewer applies.

This standard was approved by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the PRC under Announcement No. 38 of 2024 and takes effect on 1 August 2024.

Its editing department is the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the PRC, and it was drafted by the Academy of Planning and Design of that ministry with the Fishery Engineering Research Institute, China Agricultural University and others.

It closes with a Chinese and an English index, thirteen and fifteen pages respectively, and an explanation of provisions.

1 Scope

GB/T 51461-2024 is the Chinese terminology standard for agricultural engineering, the vocabulary underlying every Chinese standard, design code and contract in the built infrastructure of agriculture. Its structure is a map of the sector: planting engineering, covering protected horticulture, that is the greenhouse and tunnel systems China builds at a scale no other country approaches, and farmland construction engineering; animal husbandry engineering, covering livestock farm buildings and facilities and the equipment inside livestock and poultry houses; fishery engineering, covering fishing ports and aquaculture; agro-products postharvest handling engineering, with separate sections for grain and oilseeds, fruit and vegetables, animal products and aquatic products; and agricultural waste recovery engineering, covering the storage and transport of agricultural waste and its utilisation as energy, fertiliser, feed, growing substrate and raw material. Chinese and English indexes and an explanation of provisions close the document. It applies to the planning, design, construction, acceptance, operation, maintenance and management of agricultural engineering works, and for anyone reading Chinese agricultural engineering documents it is the key to the vocabulary.
