Scope

GB/T 48177-2026 is the English-translated version of GNSS掩星探测数据格式.

This standard defines the format for GNSS occultation detection data. Radio occultation uses signals from navigation satellites that pass through the atmosphere to derive atmospheric information, and the data are used in weather forecasting, climate monitoring and space weather work. The document is intended for meteorological services, data centers, satellite operators, research institutions and software developers who produce, exchange or process such data.

It takes effect on 1 December 2026, and the China Meteorological Administration is named as the responsible body. Being a GB/T document, it is recommended. A common data format makes exchange between producers and users simpler and reduces conversion work in processing systems. It is a newly issued format standard. It is one of several GNSS occultation documents issued on the same date, and readers may find the related documents on quality inspection and product classification relevant.
