Scope

GB/T 48149-2026 is the English-translated version of 陆上石油天然气工业甲烷排放监测技术指南.

These technical guidelines concern the monitoring of methane emissions in the onshore oil and gas industry. They cover principles and classification for selecting monitoring methods, measurement and monitoring of flare systems and process venting, component-level leak detection, and site-level emission detection. Annexes describe specific techniques such as pan-tilt laser telemetry, portable instrument and high-flow sampling methods, and vehicle-mounted and drone-mounted detection.

They are meant to guide enterprises engaged in onshore oil or natural gas exploration, development and long-distance transportation in work such as emission supervision, emission factor development, leak detection and repair, and the accounting and verification of emissions and reductions.

It is a recommended (GB/T) standard, so it is voluntary unless a regulator, customer or company programme adopts it. It was issued on 28 August 2026 and takes effect on 1 January 2027.
