GB/T 48140-2026 is the English-translated version of 汽车软件质量与缺陷管理规范.

This document addresses quality and defect management for automotive software across the full lifecycle of a software product. It sets out requirements for quality planning, process quality assurance, review of critical processes, software risk assessment and the handling of software defects, and it describes an overall framework and methods for putting these activities into practice.

The scope reaches vehicle embedded software, cloud software, on-board operating systems, automotive artificial intelligence software and AI-based components, as well as mobile real-time control software. It applies to new development, incremental development, and the upgrade and maintenance of existing software. Intended users include vehicle manufacturers, software suppliers and other organizations in the upstream and downstream supply chain, together with recall technical institutions. It is a recommended (voluntary) national standard taking effect on 1 December 2026.
