Common physical entity requirements for in-vehicle Ethernet are the subject of Part 2 of this series on road vehicles. In-vehicle Ethernet is a wired networking technology used to connect electronic control units, cameras, sensors, and infotainment systems inside vehicles, where reliable high-speed data transmission is increasingly important.

The standard is relevant to automotive manufacturers, suppliers of electronic components and transceivers, wiring harness makers, test laboratories, and engineers designing vehicle networks. It is a recommended national standard (GB/T), so it is voluntary unless a customer or contract requires it, and it adopts an international standard.

Companies supplying vehicle electronics to Chinese manufacturers can use it to understand the physical-layer expectations that apply to in-vehicle networks. Because the physical layer is shared by many devices on a vehicle, agreed requirements help components from different suppliers work together. It becomes effective on 1 April 2027.
