3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 wind tracer

A sounding vehicle whose trajectory can reflect the horizontal wind direction and speed at high altitudes.

Note. Commonly used wind field tracers include weather balloons and weather parachutes.

Using weather balloons (carried during the ascent and drift phases) and weather parachutes (carried during the descent phase) as wind field tracers, and carrying radiosondes.

Alternatively, a single anemometer can be used to obtain vertical profile data of horizontal wind direction and wind speed at high altitudes through three stages. ascent, drift, and descent.
