GB/T 47830.1-2026 is Part 1 of a two-part series on the Hybrid III 50th percentile male frontal impact dummy used in road vehicle crash testing, and it deals with basic performance.

It sets requirements for the dummy, including dimensional requirements for its structure, and sets calibration requirements for the head drop, neck flexion and extension, chest impact, lumbar stretch, pelvic flexion, knee impact, knee slider impact and foot impact tests.

Normative appendices cover the test equipment for those calibrations and sensor requirements. It applies to the design of the dummy. Issued on 2 July 2026 and applicable from 1 February 2027.

Introduction

The 50th percentile male frontal crash dummy of the Hybrid III is an important testing tool for evaluating the frontal crash protection performance of automobiles.

Requirements and calibration requirements are of great significance for evaluating dummy performance. To further promote the development of dummy testing in automobile safety testing, it is necessary to formulate [specific requirements].

GB/T 47830, "Design Specification for 50th Percent Male Frontal Collision Dummy of Road Vehicles (Hybrid III)," is proposed to consist of two parts.

1 Scope

This document specifies the requirements for the 50th percentile male frontal collision dummy of Hybrid III.

This document applies to the design of the 50th percentile male frontal collision dummy for Hybrid III.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Frontal impact dummy

Humanoid test devices used to replace real people in frontal collision tests of automobiles.

3.2 Mid-sagittal plane of a dummy

A vertical reference plane extending along the front-back direction of the dummy's body divides the dummy into two symmetrical parts.

3.3 Hysteresis rate

In the chest impact-displacement curve, the ratio of the area between the loading curve and the unloading curve to the projected area of the loading curve.

3.4 Calibration

The process of verifying and documenting whether the relevant components of the dummy meet the specifications.
