Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents".

Drafting.

This document is Part 1 of GB/T 47706 "Rail Welding". GB/T 47706 "Rail Welding" has the following parts published.

---Part 1: General Requirements and Test Methods this document modifies and adopts ISO 23300-1:2021 "Railway infrastructure - Rail welding - Part 1: General requirements for rail welding".

Test methods.

The technical differences between this document and ISO 23300-1:2021, and the reasons therefor, are as follows.

a) The terms and definitions of "railway authorities" and "operators" have been removed to better reflect my country's national conditions;

b) Requirements for drop hammer tests on welded rail joints have been added (see 6.8) to comply with Chinese application requirements;

c) The requirements for non-destructive testing have been revised (see 7.2) to better suit my country's national conditions;

d) The straightness inspection location (see 7.3.1) has been changed to conform to my country's national conditions;

e) The straightness acceptance standards of Japan and the European Union (see 7.3.2) have been deleted, which is not suitable for my country's national conditions;

Introduction

Rail welding is a key technology in the railway track industry. It can reduce noise and vibration at rail joints, improve ride comfort, and reduce [other issues].

Maintenance costs. To ensure rail welding quality, improve train operation reliability, increase welding efficiency, and promote the introduction of new technologies, [the following costs are considered].

GB/T 47706 "Rail Welding" is hereby established. This document is intended to consist of five parts.

---Part 1: General Requirements and Test Methods. The purpose is to standardize the general requirements and test methods for various rail welding methods.

---Part 2: Aluminothermic Welding. The purpose is to standardize type testing, welding processes, and quality requirements for aluminothermic welding of rails.

---Part 3: Gas Pressure Welding. The purpose is to standardize the type testing, welding process, and quality requirements for gas pressure welding of rails.

---Part 4: Flash Welding. The purpose is to standardize the type testing, welding process, and quality requirements for flash welding of rails.

---Part 5: Arc Welding. The purpose is to standardize type testing, welding procedures, and quality requirements for arc welding of steel rails.
