Scope

GB/T 47551-2026 is the English-translated version of 塑料　有害物质限量要求　多溴联苯和多溴二苯醚.

GB/T 47551-2026 sets the limits on polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in plastics and points to the method by which they are determined.

The requirements are split three ways: for plastics in primary forms and synthetic resins the limits are those of its own Table 1, for modified plastics those of GB/T 31331 and for recycled plastics those of GB/T 45091, while the determination itself is carried out in accordance with GB/T 37639, and Appendix A carries information on the restricted substances.

Clause 1 states that it applies to plastics in primary forms, synthetic resins, modified plastics and recycled plastics, and not to plastics for medical or food contact use. Issued on 30 April 2026, it applies from 1 November 2026.

1 Scope

This document specifies the limits for polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in plastics, and describes the limits for PBBs in plastics. Determination methods for benzene (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs).

This document applies to primary plastics, synthetic resins, modified plastics, and recycled plastics.

This document does not apply to plastics used in medical or food contact applications.

4 Requirements

4.1 Primary Forms of Plastics and Synthetic Resins

The limits for polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in primary plastics and synthetic resins shall comply with the requirements in Table 1.

Information on restricted substances covered in this document can be found in Appendix A.

4.2 Modified Plastics

The limits for polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in modified plastics shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 31331.

4.3 Recycled Plastics

The limits for polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in recycled plastics shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 45091.

5.Determination methods for polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in plastics The determination shall be carried out in accordance with GB/T 37639.
