1 Scope

This document specifies the equipment and procedures for determining apparent total density and apparent core density under standard conditions.

This document applies to full-size products and specimens. It also applies to individual layers of multi-layer products.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Rho

a The mass per unit volume of the product includes all skins formed during the production process, but excludes any finishes or coatings.

3.2 Apparent core density

rho c The mass per unit volume of the product core after removing all skins, finishes, and coatings formed during the production process.

Density is determined by the ratio of specimen mass to volume.

5 Equipment

5.1 Balance. accurate to 0.5% of the specimen mass.

5.2 Equipment. Capable of measuring linear dimensions (see 7.2).
