This document establishes the breeding procedure for superior tussah silkworm varieties, and specifies the operational instructions for stages such as egg preparation, cocoon propagation, and disease and pest control. It describes methods for tracing records and archives. This document applies to the production of tussah silkworm mother stock, original stock, and common stock.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Tussah silkworm eggs and/or cocoons used for successive production.

3.2 Grandparent Eggs Tussah silkworms are used for breeding and propagation of original varieties.

Note. This includes both conservation mother breeds and breeding mother breeds.

3.3 Original mother seed Tussah silkworm mother stock for use in the same generation for breeding and production.

3.4 Original species The mother silkworm of the tussah is bred from the mother breed and used for the breeding of the original breed in subsequent generations.

Note. This includes single-moth breeding stock and egg-bearing breeding stock.

3.5 Single moth mother species It is a breeding mother species bred in a single moth area of the conservation mother species to provide a breeding mother species for the next generation of breeding eggs.

3.6 Egg quantity mother species It is a breeding mother species that is bred from a single moth mother species using a mass egg breeding method, and is used to support the breeding of the original species for subsequent generations.
