1 Scope

GB/T 46679-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering assessing a university's water use - the consumption per student, the metering and leak detection across an old campus network, the fixtures and the reuse of greywater, the management and the awareness, and the scoring that awards the designation. First edition, under the Ministry of Water Resources. In force from 1 May 2026. Issued on 31 October 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2026.

This document specifies the general requirements, evaluation indicators, and evaluation conclusions for evaluating water-saving universities, and describes the evaluation methods. This document applies to regular undergraduate universities, undergraduate-level vocational schools, and higher vocational (junior college) schools (hereinafter referred to as "universities"). 3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 water-saving college Universities that have achieved water-saving results through evaluation by adopting advanced and effective water-saving management and water-saving technologies.

3.2 The number of university staff members is calculated into standard categories based on their different water usage behavior characteristics.

3.3 The total amount of water that a university takes from any conventional water source and uses for the first time within a natural year.

3.4 Subordinate units of a water-using entity that require separate water metering and accounting.

Note. Secondary water users in universities include teaching buildings, office buildings, canteens, student dormitories, faculty dormitories, bathrooms, laboratories, sports venues, libraries, and landscaping facilities. Water-using units related to school operations, such as ancillary facilities.
