3 Basic Terminology
3.1 information to enable systems for identification, collision avoidance, and navigation
The VHF maritime mobile service band uses self-organizing time division multiple access to automatically broadcast and receive ship dynamic and static information.
3.2
Works in the VHF maritime mobile service band, integrating VHF broadband data exchange (VDE), application-specific messages (ASM) and ship Data exchange system for Automatic Identification System (AIS) function.
Note. The system can realize data exchange services between ships, between ships and shores, and between ships and satellites.
3.3
A message outside the AIS standard message framework used to transmit specific application information.
Note. Includes two types. AIS-ASM and VDE-ASM.
3.4 Very high frequency data link VHFdatalink; VDL
It operates in the AIS VHF maritime mobile service band and is used as a medium for data exchange between different AIS stations.
3.5 AIS message
The smallest unit of AIS information transmitted on the VDL.
3.6 AIS shore-based system
Access and manage AIS physical shore stations, realize information broadcasting, collection, processing and storage, and provide user application interface software and hardware system A general term for.
