1 Scope

China's national classification and terminology for cup and pot products. The category is enormous and commercially significant - vacuum flasks, travel mugs, thermal pots, drinking bottles - and China makes the overwhelming majority of the world's supply of it, out of a handful of manufacturing clusters. That trade runs on descriptions in contracts, catalogues and customs declarations, and the descriptions have never been standardised, so that the same words denote different things between two suppliers in the same city. A vacuum cup, an insulated cup and a thermal mug may be three names for one construction or three different constructions with different performance. This document establishes the classification of cup and pot products and defines the associated terms and definitions, which is what allows a specification, a test report and a purchase order to refer to the same article - and what lets the performance standards that follow attach to defined categories.
