Scope

GB/T 44960-2024 is the English-translated version of 特种警用装备术语.

GB/T 44960-2024 is the Chinese terminology standard for special police equipment, and it is the vocabulary that every other Chinese police equipment standard, procurement specification and test method now refers back to. That role makes a terminology document unusually useful to an outside reader: it is the single place where the entire Chinese police equipment taxonomy is laid out and defined. It covers the basic terms, then police instruments classified as interception, restraint, attack, assault, explosive ordnance disposal, reconnaissance and observation and carrying equipment; police protective equipment, ballistic, riot and explosive search and disposal; police vehicles, divided into scene response, special duty and support vehicles; police weapons and ammunition, firearms, cartridges, riot guns, riot launchers and riot control ammunition; police uniforms, clothing, accoutrements, headgear, footwear and uniform materials; unmanned police equipment, both unmanned aircraft and robots; and police signs and markings. An index closes the document. It applies to the research, production, inspection, management, use, maintenance and teaching of special police equipment, which in practice means anyone supplying, testing or specifying such equipment in China.
