Scope
GB/T 44950-2024 is the English-translated version of 海雾预警等级.
GB/T 44950-2024 is the Chinese national standard covering the two-step warning issued when fog closes in over the coast — the classification of the warning by visibility threshold, the yellow and orange levels and the colours that carry them, and the wording of each level, which ties the warning to the visibility expected in Chinese coastal waters over the next twenty-four hours rather than to fog already observed. Shipping and coastal traffic act on the colour, so the two levels have to mean the same visibility everywhere. First edition, under the China Meteorological Administration. In force from 1 March 2025. Issued on 28 November 2024, it has been in force since 1 March 2025.

3.2 Visibility
A person with normal vision (contrast threshold of 0.05) can see and identify the target object against the sky background under the weather conditions at that time.
