GB/T 44915-2024 is the Chinese project-level methodology for assessing greenhouse gas emission reductions from waste gas and wastewater treatment and waste recovery projects. It is the technical substance behind carbon credits in five specific activities, and each of its five normative annexes is a full methodology in its own right: reducing SF6 insulating gas in the power grid; replacing SF6 with alternative cover gases in magnesium casting; using biomass waste as a raw material; catalytically decomposing N2O in the ammonia oxidation furnace of a nitric acid plant; and treating industrial wastewater. Three of those target gases with global warming potentials in the thousands, SF6 at over twenty thousand and N2O at nearly three hundred, which is why projects on them yield credits out of all proportion to their tonnage. 1 Scope

This document specifies the emission reduction projects of sulfur hexafluoride SF6 (hereinafter referred to as SF6) in the power grid, the use of magnesium metal casting process, Projects to replace SF6 with other protective gases, projects to use biomass waste as raw materials, and projects to catalyze the separation of N2O in ammonia oxidation furnaces of nitric acid production enterprises. The process of evaluating the greenhouse gas emission reductions of wastewater treatment projects and industrial wastewater treatment projects.
