Scope
GB/T 44706-2024 is the English-translated version of 化学品 沉积物-水系统中河蚬毒性试验.
GB/T 44706-2024 is the Chinese national standard covering whether a chemical that settles into river sediment poisons the animals living in it — the test principle and the information needed on the substance, the test system built on Corbicula fluminea in formulated and spiked sediment under overlying water, the instruments, the procedure, the quality assurance, and the reporting of burrowing rate and of the lethal and effect concentrations that turn the observation into a usable figure. Sediment is where a poorly soluble chemical ends up, and where a water-column test does not reach. First edition, in force from 1 May 2025. Issued on 26 October 2024, it has been in force since 1 May 2025.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in HJ 1257 and the following apply.
3.1 formulated sediment
A mixture of various materials used to simulate the composition of surface sediments in natural water bodies.
3.2 Spiked sediment
Sediment to which the test substance was added.
3.3 overlying water
The water that covers the sediment in the test container.
3.4 interstitial water or pore water
Water that occupies space within sediment or soil particles.
3.5 Median lethal concentration; LC50
The concentration of the test substance that causes half of the test organisms to die.
3.6 Median effect concentration; EC50
The concentration of a test substance that causes a certain biological effect in half of the test organisms.
3.7 burrowing rate
