1 Scope

GB/T 44701-2024 is the Chinese standard for competition wheelchairs used in wheelchair table tennis. A sports wheelchair is a piece of competition equipment rather than a mobility aid, and this one is unusual within that family: it does not need to move quickly, but it must give the player a stable base from which to reach far across the table without tipping, while staying within the dimensional limits the sport's rules impose so that no player gains an unfair advantage. The standard sets the classification and the main dimensions and their limits, then the requirements: the frame strength and the static and dynamic stability, the seat, backrest and cushion, the footrest and the strapping, the wheels, castors and their attachment, the adjustability, the materials and the surface finish, the mass, and the safety of edges and moving parts. It then gives the test methods, the inspection rules and the marking, instructions, packaging, transport and storage. It takes effect on 1 February 2025.

This document defines the terms and definitions of wheelchairs used in wheelchair table tennis competitions and provides the classification of wheelchairs used in wheelchair table tennis competitions. It specifies the technical requirements and inspection rules for wheelchairs used in wheelchair table tennis competitions and describes the corresponding test methods. This document applies to products with a mass not exceeding 100kg and a functional classification of TT1 to TT5 according to GB/T 15493-2009. Table tennis players use wheelchairs to participate in wheelchair table tennis competitions.

3 Terms and Definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 18029.7-2009, GB/T 18029.26-2014 and the following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Suitable for people with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, trunk balance dysfunction and limb dysfunction to participate in disabled table tennis competitions Wheelchair.

4 Categories

According to the athlete's functional limitations in Chapter 4 of GB/T 15493-2009 and the technical requirements of table tennis competitions, table tennis is divided into Type I Competition wheelchairs (suitable for TT1 and TT2), Type II table tennis competition wheelchairs (suitable for TT3) and Type III table tennis competition wheelchairs (Suitable for TT4 and TT5 levels).
