3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined in SN/T 3067-2011 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 Shell aperture
The opening in the shell that serves as the exit for the head and foot.
3.2 Whorl
The shell is composed of layers, and each rotation is a whorl.
3.3 operculum
A horny or calcareous sheet used to seal the shell opening, with the same shape and size as the shell opening.
3.4 penis
The male reproductive organ of a snail.
3.5 penis sheath glands
An organ in the sheath that surrounds the penis that secretes male hormones.
3.6 Mantle
A membrane covering the soft visceral sac, with its dorsal edge connected to the epithelial tissue on the back of the visceral mass.
3.7 Egg clutch
A closely packed, calcified mass of eggs laid by oviparous animals.
