Scope

GB/T 4461-2020 is the English-translated version of 热双金属带材.

GB/T 4461-2020 specifies the designation representation method, order content, size, shape, marks, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and the packaging, signs and quality certificate for thermostat metal strip.

Clause 1 states that it applies to the production of thermostat metal strip, called the strip in the text, for the thermal sensitive components of temperature control, temperature compensation and temperature indicating devices.

Clause 3 defines thermostat metal as a composite material for heat-sensitive elements composed of two or more layers of metals or alloys with different average linear thermal expansion coefficients firmly bonded along the entire contact surface, and goes on to define the component alloy with its active, passive and intermediate passive forms, and the specific thermal deflection.

The designation clause builds the designation from the Arabic numeral 5, the Chinese pinyin letter J, the flexivity and the resistivity value; the size and shape clause ties sizes and tolerances to Table 1 and requires the layers to be firmly bonded with no delamination or edge cracks, no severe twisting, a sickle bend of no more than 3 mm per metre and longitudinal and transverse radii of curvature to Table 2; the marks clause requires the passive component of the strip to carry continuous marks corresponding to the designation.

The technical requirements clause ties the designation, the component layer alloys and the main characteristics to Table 3 and the flexivity, resistivity and bonding strength of the heat-treated specimen to Table 4, with the flexivity tolerance level and the choice between the two bonding strength tests to be stated in the contract, while a separate surface quality clause, which the table of contents numbers 8 a second time, requires a smooth surface free of cracks, bubbles, flaking, rust spots, severe scratches and harmful spots.

The test methods clause checks size and shape with measuring tools of adequate accuracy, runs the flexivity test and specimen preparation in accordance with GB/T 8364 and gives two bonding strength tests, the first a repeated bending test to break with visual observation of the bonding site, and the inspection rules clause puts inspection and acceptance with the supplier's quality supervision department and requires each batch to be of one designation, heat number, size and delivery state.

Clause 2 cites GB/T 5986, GB/T 6146, GB/T 8364 and YB/T 5242, and three informative annexes give the chemical composition of the thermostat metal component alloys, their average linear thermal expansion coefficient and resistivity, and a recommended heat treatment system.

It replaces GB/T 4461-2007, was issued on 2 June 2020 and has applied since 1 December 2020.

1 Scope

This Standard specifies the designation expression method, order content, size, shape, marks, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, signs and quality certificate for thermostat metal strip.

This Standard is applicable to the production of t thermostat metal strip (hereinafter referred to as the strip) for thermal sensitive components in temperature control, temperature compensation and temperature indicating devices.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1 Thermostat metal

A composite material for heat-sensitive elements that is composed of two or more layers of metals or alloys with different average linear thermal expansion coefficients that are firmly bonded along the entire contact surface.

3.2 Component alloy

The collective name of the material layers that make up the thermostat metal.

According to the characteristics and functions of the material layer, it is divided into active component of thermostat metal, passive component of thermostat metal, intermediate passive component of thermostat metal.

3.2.1 Active component of thermostat metal

A component layer with a larger average linear thermal expansion coefficient in a thermostat metal.

3.3 Specific thermal deflection

For flat thermostat metal with unit thickness, when the temperature changes by 1°C, half of the curvature change along the longitudinal centerline.

4 Designation representation method

The designations for thermostat metal are expressed by the combination of the Arabic numeral "5", the Chinese pinyin letter "J" (the first letter of the Chinese pinyin "Jing"), the flexivity and the resistivity value.

5 Order content

The contract or order for ordering according to this Standard shall at least include the following contents. […]

6 Size and shape

6.1 Size and tolerance

The strip size and its tolerance shall meet the requirements of Table 1. The fixed-length supply shall be indicated in the contract.

6.2 Shape
