Scope

GB/T 44248-2024 is the English-translated version of 信息技术 生物特征识别 人脸识别系统应用要求.

GB/T 44248-2024 sets the requirements for applying face recognition systems. China deployed face recognition faster and more widely than anywhere else and then began to constrain it, through the Personal Information Protection Law and the rules on its use in residential compounds, hotels and shops; the standard sits in that second phase, and is concerned less with matching accuracy than with whether a given deployment should exist and how it is governed. It sets the basic requirements, then the planning and evaluation of an application, covering the justification of the deployment and its assessment, the construction and acceptance of the system, the operation and the termination of the system - including what happens to the collected templates when it is switched off - and the application management, covering the management system and the data management. It takes effect on 1 February 2025.
