Scope
GB/T 43955-2024 is the English-translated version of 棉及化纤纯纺、混纺纱线检验、标志与包装.
China's national standard for the inspection, marking and packing of yarn in cotton, man-made fibres and blends. Yarn is traded between spinners and weavers or knitters in enormous volume, and the transaction rests on a description rather than an inspection because nobody can examine a tonne of yarn. What the description has to convey is the count and its variability, the twist, the strength and elongation, the evenness and the imperfections - the thick places, thin places and neps per kilometre that determine how the yarn will appear in cloth - and the hairiness, which decides how it will behave on a weaving machine. The standard fixes how those are inspected and how a lot is graded, together with the marking and packing that keep a delivery identifiable. The packing is not incidental: yarn is damaged by handling, by moisture and by crushing, and a package that collapses cannot be unwound at speed.
