Scope

GB/T 43927-2024 is the English-translated version of 航天器用锂离子蓄电池组安全设计与控制要求.

GB/T 43927-2024 covers the safety of lithium-ion batteries on spacecraft, where the ordinary mitigations do not exist. A battery on the ground can be vented, cooled, isolated or in the last resort abandoned; on a satellite it sits inside a sealed vehicle with no one aboard to intervene, discharging and recharging every ninety minutes for years in vacuum, where there is no convection to carry heat away and where a cell that vents releases gas into a structure that cannot be opened. On a crewed vehicle the consequence is worse. The risk also spans the whole life: the battery is handled, stored, transported and integrated on the ground, and much of what causes an on-orbit failure happens during that period. This document specifies the overall requirements for safety design, the general requirements for safety design and control, the detailed requirements for each, and the safety verification requirements for spacecraft lithium-ion battery assemblies. Under ICS 49.035 and CCS V76, it is written for spacecraft power system designers, for battery and cell suppliers to the space industry, and for the mission assurance and launch safety authorities who must accept the design.
