The following terms and definitions apply to this document:

4 Structure and materials

Handrails should be designed and manufactured with suitable materials according to the use occasions, and at least the following requirements should be met:

a) The material selection and size of parts should ensure sufficient rigidity and stability;

b) all parts shall be resistant to environmental damage (e:g: weather, chemicals, corrosive gases), for example, by using corrosion-resistant materials or having appropriate

proper coating protection;

c) Heated handrails installed in hazardous areas and with electric heat tracing devices shall meet the requirements of IEC /IEEE60079-30-1 and IEC /IEEE60079-30-2
