Scope

GB/T 42354-2023 is the English-translated version of 制药机械(设备)材料选用导则.

GB/T 42354-2023 is the Chinese national guideline for choosing the materials a piece of pharmaceutical machinery is built from.

It sets the general requirements, the steps of the selection, the classification of materials and the rules for picking metals, non-metals and materials of unknown grade, while five informative annexes list the materials common in pharmaceutical equipment, compare Chinese and foreign stainless steel grades, give their chemical composition and their pitting resistance equivalent, and cover the selection of common steels.

Clause 4 requires that parts touching the product or the process medium be non-toxic, corrosion-resistant and non-shedding and withstand steam or chemical gas sterilization.

Clause 1 applies it to those contact materials and also to food machinery. Issued on 17 March 2023, it has applied since 1 October 2023.
