Scope
GB/T 42259-2022 (Metallic and other inorganic coatings - Test methods for measuring thermal cycle resistance and thermal shock resistance for thermal barrier coatings) is available as an English-translated PDF.
GB/T 42259-2022 — This document describes two test methods for thermal barrier coatings, using a steady-state cyclic heating and cooling method to test the thermal cycle resistance, and using a heated Thermal shock resistance is tested by heat and chill methods. This document is used to evaluate the durability of thermal barrier coatings under thermal strain. This document is suitable for screening thermal barrier coating systems including materials and processing techniques, and is not suitable for controlling thermal spraying processes.

foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1.Structure and Drafting Rules for Standardization Documents"
drafting.
This document is modified to adopt ISO 14188.2012 "Tests for thermal cycle and thermal shock resistance of thermal barrier coatings on metals and other inorganic coatings
method".
Compared with ISO 14188.2012, this document has made the following structural adjustments.
--- Adjust Figure 2 in ISO 14188.2012 to Figure 2 and Figure 3, and adjust the other figure numbers accordingly.
The technical differences between this document and ISO 14188.2012 and their reasons are as follows.
--- The measurement requirements for the peeling area ratio have been increased [see 5.2.4.4a)] to improve the rationality of measuring the peeling area.
The following editorial changes have been made to this document.
--- Added quotations for items listed in 5.1, 5.2.4.2, 5.2.4.3, 5.2.4.4, 5.2.4.6, 5.3.3, 6.2, and 6.3;
---Change the titles of 5.2.2.1 and 5.3.2.1 of ISO 14188.2012 to the quotations of the column items.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
A two-layer structural coating consisting of a metal bond layer and an oxide ceramic topcoat designed to reduce heat transfer from the ceramic topcoat to the substrate.
NOTE. Thermally grown oxide (TGO) will develop on top of the bond coat when the thermal barrier coating is in service at high temperatures. Typical substrate materials are nickel-based superalloys
material. As shown in Figure 1, the preparation method adopts physical vapor deposition, chemical vapor deposition or thermal spraying process, such as plasma spraying and high-velocity flame coating.
Flame spraying (HVOF), the spraying powder material complies with the provisions of the corresponding part of ISO 14232.
