3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1

ship launching shiplaunching

The process of bringing a ship into the water from land to keep the ship afloat.

3.2

shipshifting

The process of moving a ship from one place to another.

Note. For example moving from the slipway to the water's edge.

3.3

slipway

A ramp for launching a ship, including the part that extends into the water.

Note. The part on the shore, including the slipway, is called the main slide, and the part extending into the water is called the secondary slide.

Before launching, the airbag is inflated to raise the ship. When the bottom of the ship is higher than the pier, the pier is withdrawn, and the airbag is properly deflated so that the ship is seated on the airbag.
