GB/T 41846-2022 is the code of practice forensic laboratories follow when identifying suspected initiating devices and pyrotechnic compositions.

Clause 4.1 sets the steps: a suspected detonator goes through sampling, appearance and morphology examination, internal structure examination, analysis as a standard or non-standard detonator and an explosive test and/or examination of the charge composition; a suspected fuse or detonating cord through appearance, structure and core composition examination; and a suspected electric igniter through sampling, appearance examination, a flammability test, internal structure examination and examination of the composition.

Clause 1 adds that the functional test methods it describes apply only to industrial detonators. Its contents list covers those functional inspections and three appendices of appearances and internal structures. Issued on 14 October 2022, it has applied since 1 February 2023.
