Scope
GB/T 41738-2022 is the English-translated version of 纤维金属层板I型层间断裂韧性（GIC）试验方法.
GB/T 41738-2022 is the Chinese national test method for the mode I interlaminar fracture toughness of fibre metal laminates, measured on a double cantilever beam specimen.
It fixes the test principle, the equipment, the specimens, their conditioning, the procedure, the calculation and presentation of results, and the report. What the test yields is the critical energy release rate GIC, the load-displacement curve and the crack growth resistance curve, also called the R curve.
It defines fibre metal laminates as interlayer hybrid composites in which metal sheets such as aluminium or titanium alloy are laid up alternately with fibre composites of glass, carbon or aramid and cured under heat and pressure.

1 Scope

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Fiber metal laminates; FMLs
The thickness and layup direction are conventionally designed, made of metal sheets (aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, etc.) and fibers (glass fibers, carbon fibers, aramid fibers, etc.) It is a kind of interlayer hybrid composite material formed by curing under suitable temperature and pressure after alternately laying composite materials.
3.2 Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness; GIC
Resistance of fiber-reinforced composite laminates to delamination crack initiation and propagation in the mode I cracking mode.
Note 2: The cracking mode of the type I crack is shown in Figure 1, of which Figure 1b) The double cantilever beam sample refers to ASTM D5528 Unidirectional Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites Sample size in Standard Test Method for Type I Interlaminar Fracture Toughness, the width of the piano hinge is the same as the width of the sample, and the direction of the loading force is perpendicular to the sample flat.
