1 Scope

This document describes methods for testing the stability, strength and durability of fully assembled beds, including bed frames and bed tops.

This document applies to all types of adult beds, not water beds, air beds, foldable beds, bunk beds, special needs beds or nursing care

and medical beds.

This document does not include methods for evaluating product aging, degradation, fire protection and electrical functions.

The strength and durability of storage components, seating surfaces and other features associated with the bed are tested against other criteria.

Additional tests apply if the bed has additional features such as storage, electrical adjustment or adjustment from a sofa into a bed.

This document does not specify loads, cycles and force values, which are specified by the requirements document. If no documents are required, please refer to Appendix A

Recommended load and number of cycles, etc.

The test methods of this document do not evaluate the durability of soft packages, such as filling materials and cladding.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1

frameless slatted bed surface unframedslatbase

A bed surface made of separate slats held together by textile, rubber or plastic straps.

Note. When the load acts on a slat, the force is transmitted to the support only through this one slat.

3.2

bed cover framedbase with frame

A bed surface consisting of slats or springs connected to a fully constructed frame system.

NOTE. When a load acts on a component, such as a slat or a spring, the force is transmitted through the frame to the support.
