Scope

GB/T 40702-2021 is the English-translated version of 油气管道地质灾害防护技术规范.

GB/T 40702-2021 sets out how geological hazards are to be managed along onshore oil and gas pipelines over their whole life cycle, from construction and operation to abandonment.

It covers the investigation and identification of hazards such as landslides, collapses, debris flows, ground subsidence, special soils and water damage, and the evaluation of hazard susceptibility, pipeline vulnerability and failure consequences.

It then deals with monitoring and detection, early warning levels and response, engineering prevention and active pipeline protection, emergency rescue, and data management and handover, with annexes on pipeline routing, flood prevention and pipe stress calculations.

It applies to onshore steel pipelines carrying oil and gas, but not to urban gas pipelines or to pipelines inside refinery and chemical plant areas. It was issued on 11 October 2021 and has applied since 1 May 2022.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Pipeline geohazard

Geological effects or disasters related to the geological environment that cause harm to pipeline construction, transportation system safety and operating environment.

Note: The geological disasters mentioned in this document include rock and soil disasters, special soil disasters, water damage disasters and geological structural disasters. Rock and soil disasters include landslides, collapses, Debris flow, ground subsidence (including only goaf subsidence and karst collapse), ground subsidence and ground fissures; special soil disasters (including only loess collapsibility, expansive soil Expansion and shrinkage, frost heaving and thawing settlement of frozen soil, salt swelling and swelling of saline soil, and wind erosion sand burial); water damage includes slope water damage, river channel water damage and terrace water damage; geological structure Natural disasters only include active faults and earthquakes.

3.2 List of geological hazards

During the entire life cycle of the pipeline, the characteristic attributes, evaluation results, remediation planning content, and risk mitigation measures of geological disasters can be registered or described.
