1 Scope

This document specifies the performance, gas measurement, sensitivity, result display, and performance of portable gas detectors used before entering enclosed spaces on ships

Alarm level, impact resistance, temperature and humidity protection, and measurement requirements, etc.

This document can be used for portable gas detector testing to prove compliance with SOLAS Convention XI-1/7 "Gas Detection in Enclosed Spaces"

"Detector" requirements can also be used to determine whether portable gas detectors on the market meet the requirements of the SOLAS Convention.

Note 1.From July 1,.2016, SOLAS Convention XI-1/7 stipulates portable gas testing equipment and shipboard equipment. The SOLAS Convention requires that

In order to measure the concentration of combustible gas or vapor, the combustible gas mentioned in this document is methane or a mixture of propane and butane, and it is required to be portable

The type of combustible gas is clearly marked on the integrated gas detector. Unmarked combustible gases cannot be detected and measured by portable gas detectors.

Note 2.The portable gas detector can use isobutane as the calibration gas when measuring propane and butane gas.
