Scope

GB/T 40407-2021 is the English-translated version of 硅酸盐水泥熟料矿相X射线衍射分析方法.

GB/T 40407-2021 sets out how X-ray powder diffraction is used to identify and quantify the mineral phases of Portland cement clinker. It covers the principle of the method, the calibration of the X-ray diffractometer, the confirmation of the quantitative analysis procedure, the measurement procedure and the test report.

It applies to the main clinker minerals, alite (C3S), belite (C2S), tricalcium aluminate (C3A) and the iron aluminate phase (C4AF), and can also be used for periclase, potassium sulfate, hemihydrate gypsum, anhydrite and calcite.

The document defines terms such as preferred orientation and the reliability factor RWP, and warns that the diffractometer needs radiation protection and careful handling because of its high operating voltage.

Cement plants and building materials laboratories use it for clinker phase analysis. It was issued on 20 August 2021 and has applied since 1 March 2022.

1 Scope

This document specifies the principle of the X-ray diffraction analysis method for the mineral phase of Portland cement clinker, the calibration and quantitative analysis of the X-ray diffractometer Confirmation of procedures, measurement procedures and reports.

This document is applicable to the determination of various mineral phases in Portland cement clinker (including alite (tricalcium silicate, C3S), belite (dicalcium silicate) C2S), aluminate (tricalcium aluminate, C3A), iron aluminate (tetracalcium aluminate, C4AF)), it can also be used to determine periclase (magnesium oxide, MgO), Glauber's salt (potassium sulfate, KS), hemihydrate gypsum (calcium sulfate hemihydrate, CS 2H2O ), anhydrous gypsum (calcium sulfate, CS) and calcite (Calcium carbonate, CaCO3).

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 X-ray diffraction; XRD

X-rays are scattered by electrons in the crystal material, and the coherent scattered light appears as a result of interference enhancement in a specific direction.

Note: The diffraction pattern produced by each crystal reflects the distribution of atoms inside the crystal. Based on the Bragg equation, when a crystal is composed of elements, groups or knots When there is a difference in structure, the diffraction spectrum will be shown in the number of diffraction peaks, angular position, relative intensity and diffraction peak shape. XRD patterns can be used as Qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis basis of crystals.

3.2 Preferred orientation

The non-random orientation of the crystal grains relative to the sample surface.

Note: The preferred orientation leads to major changes in the intensity of some XRD lines, which is one of the sources of error in XRD analysis. The preferred orientation can be pulverized for a long time Reduce the degree of orientation, but cannot eliminate it.

3.3 Reliability factor; RWP

A parameter that reflects the degree of consistency between the overall fitted pattern and the measured XRD pattern.
