Scope
GB/T 40188-2021 is the English-translated version of 畜禽分子标记辅助育种技术规程.
GB/T 40188-2021 is the Chinese code of practice for breeding livestock and poultry with molecular marker assisted selection (MAS), in which DNA markers closely linked to a target trait are used to select for that trait indirectly.
It gives the basic and operational requirements for such breeding programmes and defines the key terms: MAS, marker-assisted best linear unbiased prediction (MA-BLUP), the net molecular score and the selection index.
Performance data are taken with the NY/T measurement procedures for breeding pigs, pig muscle quality and carcass traits, broilers, layers, sheep and goats, Chinese Holstein and beef cattle, plus the microsatellite DNA diversity procedure.
It applies to pigs, cattle, goats, sheep and chickens and can be used as a reference for other animals. It was issued on 21 May 2021 and has applied since 1 December 2021.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard was proposed and managed by the China National Institute of Standardization.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the basic and operational requirements for molecular marker-assisted breeding of livestock and poultry.
This standard applies to molecular marker-assisted breeding of pigs, cattle, goats, sheep and chickens, and other animal breeding can be used as a reference.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Marker assisted selection; MAS
A breeding technique that uses DNA molecular markers closely linked to the target traits to indirectly select the target traits.
3.2 Marker-assisted best linear unbiased prediction; MA-BLUP
A mixed linear model method suitable for livestock and poultry MAS. The mixed linear model divides the value of each sports species into foreground molecular markers Effect and background minor polygene effect are two parts, and the molecular marker effect and minor polygene effect are solved simultaneously through the mixed model equations (MME) Effect, the estimated breeding value of individual livestock and poultry is the sum of molecular marker effect and minor polygenic effect.
3.3 Net molecular score
In the selection index of livestock and poultry MAS, the part composed of molecular marker effect value is essentially all quantitative related to molecular markers The sum of additive effects of quantitative trait locus (QTL).
3.4 Selection index
A method of livestock and poultry MAS is a weighted combination of two parts, the net molecular value and the deviation of the individual phenotype value.
