1 Scope

China's national standard for the steel seals and edge protectors used in packing. It specifies the classification and codes, the product marking and use, and the order content. These are the small pressed steel components that go with strapping: the seal is the sleeve crimped over the overlapping ends of a steel or plastic band to hold the joint, and the edge protector is the angle piece placed under the strap where it passes over the corner of a load. Both exist because a strapped load fails at predictable places. A joint that slips releases the whole strap; a strap that bears directly on a sharp corner cuts into the goods and is itself cut. The seal's holding power is therefore the property that matters and it depends on the crimping tool as much as on the seal, which is why the standard has to cover use alongside classification, and why the order content clause specifies the strap the seal is intended for.
