GB/T 38794-2020 is the English-translated version of 家具中化学物质安全甲醛释放量的测定.

GB/T 38794-2020 is the Chinese national method for measuring how much formaldehyde furniture releases.

It specifies the collection method and the analysis method: the piece of furniture is put in a climate chamber and the formaldehyde concentration in the chamber air is measured, with the chamber volume and the volume loading factor - the ratio of the outline volume of the furniture to the chamber volume - defined for the purpose.

Annex A gives how the outline volume of the various kinds of sample is calculated. The chambers, reagents and analytical steps follow GB/T 31107, GB/T 601, GB/T 603, GB/T 6682 and GB/T 18204.2-2014.

It applies to indoor furniture, and interior decoration materials and outdoor furniture may use it as a reference. It was issued on 2 June 2020 and has applied since 1 January 2021.

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

1 Scope

This standard specifies the collection method and analysis method of the formaldehyde emission test method in furniture.

This standard applies to the determination of formaldehyde emissions from indoor furniture products. Interior decoration materials and outdoor furniture can be implemented by reference.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Formaldehyde release

Under the conditions specified in the standard, through a certain test method, according to a certain form (such as unit area or load rate) and time requirements, the production is measured The product (or raw material) emits formaldehyde (HCHO) gas concentration to the outside world. [GB/T 28202-2011, definition 2.9.7.1].

3.2 Climate cabin volume

When the climate cabin is empty, the total volume of air exchange in the cabin.

Note: The space occupied by lighting equipment, sensors, etc. in the cabin is not counted.

3.3 Volume loading factor

The ratio of the outline volume of the wooden furniture to the capacity of the climate cabin.

Note: The unit is cubic meters per cubic meter (m3/m3).
