Scope
GB/T 3780.25-2018 is the English-translated version of 炭黑 第25部分:碳含量的测定.
GB/T 3780.25-2018 is the part of the Chinese carbon black test series that measures the total carbon content of a carbon black sample. It applies to carbon blacks made by incomplete combustion or thermal cracking whose intrinsic carbon content lies between 95% and 100%.
A weighed sample in a combustion boat is burned completely in a continuous oxygen flow inside a tube furnace at 1350 °C; the gas passes a magnesium perchlorate trap that removes water vapour and particulates, and the carbon dioxide formed is measured by an infrared absorption detector.
The standard lists the analytical balance, the gravity convection oven held at (125 ± 5) °C and the carbon analyzer, and notes that carbon and sulfur analyzers with several element detectors are also suitable. It was issued on 17 September 2018 and has applied since 1 April 2019.

This part is the 25th part of GB/T 3780.
This part is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 3780 specifies the method for determining the total carbon content in carbon black samples by instrument.
This section applies to carbon black with intrinsic carbon content of 95% to 100% after incomplete combustion or thermal cracking.
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only dated versions apply to this document. For undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document.

3 Principle
The combustion boat containing the weighed sample is placed in a 1350 ° C tube furnace, the sample is completely burned in a continuous oxygen flow, and the carbon is oxidized.
Carbon dioxide, the gas stream passes through a trap filled with magnesium perchlorate, removes water vapor and particulates, and passes through the detection cell in the exact infrared spectrum.
The carbon dioxide concentration was measured at an infrared (IR) absorption detector at a wavelength.
4 Instruments
4.1 Analytical balance with a graduation value of 0.1 mg.
4.2 Gravity convection oven, the temperature can be maintained (125 ± 5) °C.
4.3 Carbon Analyzer
a) the combustion tube and the combustion boat, made of a suitable material (such as mullite, porcelain or zircon);
b) the sample is adsorbed on the tungsten oxide promoter to control the burning rate;
c) the sample is burned at 1350 ° C in air or oxygen-enriched air;
d) the combustion gas is removed by a desiccant (anhydrous magnesium perchlorate) to remove water vapor;
e) The detection system uses an infrared (IR) absorption detector to measure carbon dioxide, the wavelength of which has a linear response over the full range of possible concentrations.
Note: Analyzers equipped with multiple element detectors (such as carbon and sulfur analyzers) are also suitable for this method.
5 Reagents and materials
5.1 Magnesium perchlorate, analytically pure.
5.2 High purity oxygen, purity >=99.9%.
