Scope
GB/T 37514-2019 is the English-translated version of 动植物油脂 矿物油的检测.
GB/T 37514-2019 sets out how mineral oil is detected in animal and vegetable fats and oils.
Clause 1 says the standard specifies the principles, the reagents and materials, the equipment, the sample preparation methods and sample preparation, the qualitative analysis steps and the expression of results, and it gives two ranges of application: the first method serves animal and vegetable oils with a wax ester content of less than 0.5% and has a minimum detection limit of 0.5%, while a further method serves animal and vegetable oils other than dark sea buckthorn fruit oil and has a minimum detection limit of 0.3%, and the draft does not print the name of that second method.
Clause 2 cites GB/T 5524, GB/T 6682 and GB/T 15687. Clause 3 defines a single term, mineral oil, as the base oil obtained from crude oil by refining operations such as atmospheric or vacuum distillation, solvent refining, dewaxing and deasphalting, with a note that its main component is hydrocarbons.
Clause 4 is the first method, saponification, and its principle is that the triglycerides, monoglycerides, glycidyl esters, free fatty acids and phospholipids of animal and vegetable oils react with a strong alkali solution under heating, so that the glycerin or water and the soap produced dissolve in hot water and stay transparent, whereas mineral oil cannot be saponified by strong alkali and is insoluble in hot water and turns the solution cloudy, which means the degree of clarity of the saponification liquid shows whether mineral oil has been mixed into the oil.
The reagents listed for that method are analytically pure unless otherwise noted and begin with water to GB/T 6682 level 3, anhydrous ethanol, potassium hydroxide and a potassium hydroxide solution.
The draft breaks off inside that list, so the analysis steps and the second method are not shown. The standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Grain and Oil Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC270); it was issued on May 10, 2019 and has applied since December 1, 2019.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the principles, reagents and materials, equipment, sample preparation methods, sample preparation, and qualitative determination of mineral oil in animal and vegetable oils. Analysis steps and results expression.
The first method of this standard is applicable to the detection of mineral oil in animal and vegetable oils with a wax ester content of less than 0.5%, and the minimum detection limit is 0.5%;
The method is applicable to the detection of mineral oil in animal and vegetable oils other than dark sea buckthorn fruit oil, and the minimum detection limit is 0.3%.
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only dated versions apply to this document. For undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document.
GB/T 5524 animal and vegetable oils

GB/T 15687 Preparation of animal and vegetable oil and fat samples
3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Mineral oil
The crude oil produced is produced by refining process and refining process such as atmospheric pressure or vacuum distillation, solvent refining, dewaxing and deasphalting. Base oil.
Note: The main component of mineral oil is hydrocarbons.
4 First method saponification
4.1 Principle
The triglyceride and the monoglyceride, the glycidyl ester, the free fatty acid, the phospholipid and the like in the animal and vegetable oils and the like are generated under the heating condition and the strong alkali solution In the reaction, the generated glycerin (or water) and soap are dissolved in hot water and are in a transparent state; while the mineral oil cannot be saponified by a strong alkali and is insoluble in hot water.
The solution became cloudy. Therefore, whether the mineral oil is mixed in the animal or vegetable oil can be detected by the degree of clarity of the saponification liquid.
4.2 Reagents and materials
The reagents used below are analytically pure reagents unless otherwise noted.
4.2.1 Water. GB/T 6682, Level 3.
4.2.2 Anhydrous ethanol.
4.2.3 Potassium hydroxide.
4.2.4 Potassium Hydroxide Solution. Add 15 g (accurate to 0.01 g) of potassium hydroxide to 10 mL of water to prepare a solution.
