China's national specification for when the main components of an escalator or moving walk must be discarded. It specifies the terms and definitions and the technical conditions for scrapping. An escalator has a service life measured in decades and runs continuously, and the question of when a worn part must be replaced rather than adjusted is the central maintenance judgement. It is also where accidents come from. The step chain stretches as its pins and bushes wear, and a chain that has stretched past its limit can climb the sprocket or break; the steps themselves wear at the rollers and at the cleats that mesh with the comb plate; the handrail loses its grip on its drive and stops tracking the steps; the brake linings wear. 3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions as defined in GB/T 7024 and GB 16899-2011 apply to this document.
