Scope
GB/T 37041-2018 is the English-translated version of 精细重晶石粉.
China's national standard for fine barite powder. It specifies the terms and definitions, the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the marking, packaging, transport and storage. Barite is barium sulfate, and its whole value is density: at about 4.2 grams per cubic centimetre it is far heavier than any other cheap mineral, and almost everything it is used for follows from that. Ground and suspended in water or oil it makes the drilling mud whose weight holds back the pressure of a well - which is by a wide margin the largest use, and the reason barite is a strategic mineral for the oil industry. In finer grades it is a filler in paints, plastics and rubber, where it adds weight and opacity cheaply and, being chemically inert and insoluble, does not react with anything. And it absorbs X-rays, which is why it goes into radiation shielding concrete and plaster. The requirements accordingly turn on specific gravity, purity and particle size distribution.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and marking, packaging, transportation and storage of fine barite powder. This standard applies to fine barite powder for materials such as paints, plastics, rubber, paints and inks.
