GB/T 36830-2018 is the English-translated version of 欧洲榆小蠹检疫鉴定方法.
GB/T 36830-2018 is the Chinese national method for detecting and identifying Scolytus multistriatus (Marsham), the smaller European elm bark beetle, during plant quarantine.
It applies to the quarantine inspection of host plants and their products in which the beetle may travel. The standard defines the morphological terms used in the key, such as interval, puncture, epipharynx, setae and spiracle, and gives the pest's names, synonyms and classification within the Curculionidae, Scolytinae.
Because the insect lives between the xylem and the phloem of the wood, the method is based on sampling infested material, collecting the insects found and identifying adults by their morphology under a stereo microscope.
It is used by plant quarantine inspectors and laboratories. It was issued on 17 September 2018 and has applied since 1 April 2019.

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the quarantine and identification methods for European cockroaches.
This standard applies to the quarantine and identification of European cockroaches in the quarantine of host plants and their products.
2 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
2.1 Interval
A part of the coleopteran coleoptera that is formed by a finely-cut point between the engraved grooves.
2.2 Puncture
An indentation of varying size on the surface of the coleoptera.
2.3 Epipharynx
The inner side of the upper lip of the mouthpiece (ie, the opposite side of the exposed face) has a sensory organ.
2.4 Setae
The hollow structure that occurs by the extension of the dermis layer is elongated and resembles a hair applicator.
2.5 Spiracle
The opening of the trachea on the surface of the body wall and its associated opening and closing structure.

4 Principle of the method
According to the hazards of the European cockroaches, it is mainly harmful between the xylem and the phloem of the wood.
