1 Scope

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, product classification and marking, requirements, test preparation, test methods, inspection rules, and packaging, labelling, marking, transportation and storage of epoxy resin joint sealant for anti-cracking in refurbishment.

This standard is applicable to solvent-free joint sealant products for interior decoration and refurbishment composed of epoxy resin (component A) and amine curing agent (component B).

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 2943 and the following apply.

3.1 joint sealant in underlying enhancement

Two-component epoxy resin joint sealant used to bond and reinforce the joints of various building substrates, such as cement mortar, wood, calcium silicate board and gypsum board, in the base layer under coating putty, so as to prevent possible cracking of the putty surface layer and the coating.

Note: Commonly known as joint agent.

3.2 joint sealant in decorative finishes

Joint sealant used for anti-cracking and decorative treatment of the grouted surface layer of ceramic wall and floor tiles or stone.

Note: Commonly known as seam beautifying agent.

4 Product classification and marking

4.1 Product classification

4.1.1 Epoxy resin joint sealant for anti-cracking in refurbishment (hereinafter referred to as joint sealant) is classified, according to the position of use, into joint sealant in underlying enhancement (hereinafter referred to as base-layer sealant) and joint sealant in decorative finishes (hereinafter referred to as finish-layer sealant).

4.1.2 Joint sealant in underlying enhancement is classified, according to appearance, into opaque (C) and semi-transparent and transparent joint sealant (T); according to durability, it may be classified into ageing-resistant (A) and non-ageing-resistant joint sealant (N).

4.1.3 Joint sealant in decorative finishes may be classified, according to additional properties, into sealant with ageing resistance (A), sealant with wet-curing property (W) and sealant with yellowing resistance (Y); according to the method of application, it may be classified into manually scraped finish-layer sealant (S) and gun-filled finish-layer sealant (Q).

4.2 Marking

4.2.1 Format

Standard number + code.

4.2.2 Meaning of the code

The meaning of the code is given in Table 1.

First position - Joint sealant classification: D = base-layer sealant; M = finish-layer sealant.

Second position (optional) - Classification of finish-layer sealant by method of application: Q = gun-filled; S = manually scraped.

Third position (optional) - Appearance characteristic of the joint sealant: T = transparent or semi-transparent in appearance; C = opaque in appearance.

Fourth position (optional) - Performance characteristic of the joint sealant: A = with ageing resistance; W = with wet-curing property; Y = with yellowing resistance.

4.3 Examples

Examples of product marking of joint sealant are as follows:

- base-layer sealant that is semi-transparent in appearance and has an ageing-resistance function is marked as: GB/T 36797-2018 DTA;

- gun-filled finish-layer sealant with yellowing resistance is marked as: GB/T 36797-2018 MQY.
