Scope
GB/T 36501-2018 is the English-translated version of 土壤制图 1:25000 1:50000 1:100000中国土壤图用色和图例规范.
GB/T 36501-2018 sets the colors and legends to be used on soil maps of China at the scales of 1:25 000, 1:50 000 and 1:100 000. It explains how the color scale is set up and organised, from color grading and cataloguing to the design of a color library, and how colors are matched to mapping units on both analogue and electronic soil maps.
It also fixes the soil classification levels shown on the map, the legend and the annotation of soil type codes, with a normative annex giving the soil map color scale and informative annexes on soil colors and on a sample map.
It applies to the preparation and publication of soil maps at these national basic scales or in other framings. It was issued on 13 July 2018 and has applied since 1 February 2019.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the setting and organization of the color code of 1.25000 1.150000 1.1100000 China soil map and legend, The use of color scales, soil classification levels and legends, and annotation requirements.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Drawing unit
The unit that represents the content of the map, also known as the unit above. The mapping unit of the soil map includes soil units and non-soil units.
3.2 Soil mapping unit
The basic unit representing the content of the soil map is based on the classification units of the soil classification system. Soil drawing unit by content It is divided into soil unit map and soil composite map. The soil unit map is composed of a soil classification unit. The soil composite map is composed of two or two.
