GB/T 36022-2018 is the English-translated version of 木家具中氨释放量试验方法.
GB/T 36022-2018 gives the test methods for measuring how much ammonia wooden furniture releases, from individual components as well as from finished pieces. For components it uses a desiccator method: the specimen is placed in a glass desiccator above a crystallizing dish of dilute sulphuric acid, which absorbs the ammonia given off.
The ammonia is then determined by a salicylic acid colour reaction read on a spectrophotometer at 697.5 nm and expressed in milligrams per litre. The standard lists the apparatus, the ammonia-free water and the reagents, and a normative annex explains how to calculate the outline volume of a piece of furniture.
Furniture manufacturers and testing laboratories can apply it together with GB/T 31107-2014 on testing furniture for volatile organic compounds. It was issued on 15 March 2018 and has applied since 1 October 2018.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the test method for ammonia release from wooden furniture.
This standard applies to the determination of ammonia release in wooden furniture components and finished products.

3 Test methods
3.1 Dryer method
3.1.1 General
This method is suitable for testing wooden furniture components.
3.1.2 Principle
A crystallizing dish containing a dilute sulfuric acid absorbent was placed at the bottom of the desiccator. The ammonia released from the sample was absorbed by dilute sulfuric acid.
In the presence of sodium cyanide and sodium hypochlorite, salicylic acid produces a blue-green indigo blue dye, which is based on color depth and colorimetric quantification to calculate ammonia Concentration, expressed in milligrams per liter (mg/L).
3.1.3 Instruments and Equipment
3.1.3.1 Mounting brackets.
3.1.3.2 Spectrophotometer. The measurable wavelength is 697.5nm and the slit is less than 20nm.
3.1.3.3 Glass dryer. diameter 240mm, volume 9L ~ 11L.
3.1.3.4 Crystallization dish. diameter 120mm, height 60mm~65mm.
3.1.3.5 Stoppered colorimetric tube. 10 mL.
3.1.4 Reagents or materials
3.1.4.1 The test water shall comply with the third-grade water regulations in GB/T 6682, and the reagents shall be of analytical grade.
3.1.4.2 Ammonia-free water. The test water does not contain ammonia or ammonium ions. Ammonia-free water preparation. Add a small amount of permanganate in tertiary water (see 3.1.4.1) Potassium to pale purple, plus a small amount of sodium hydroxide to alkaline, distillation, take the water between the distillation part, add a little sulfuric acid solution was slightly acidic, Distill it once more.
3.1.4.3 Sulphuric acid absorption solution [c(H2SO4)=0.005mol/L]. Measure 2.8mL of concentrated sulphuric acid and add ammonia-free water (see 3.1.4.2).
