1 Scope

This standard specifies the marking of shipping containers and the test apparatus, test requirements, test report, etc., for their performance testing.

This standard is applicable to rectangular shipping containers with a weight of less than 70kg that are not palletized.

This standard is not applicable to shipping containers for dangerous goods or other shipping containers with special transportation requirements.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1 shipping containers

overall assembly formed by packaging a product for the purpose of transportation and storage

3.2 temperature and humidity test

test where the test sample is placed in a temperature and humidity test apparatus according to specified requirements to evaluate the sample's ability to withstand changes in external climatic conditions and the packaging's ability to protect the contents

3.3 drop test

test where the test sample is dropped vertically from a specified height onto a hard, flat horizontal surface to evaluate the sample's ability to withstand vertical impact and the packaging's ability to protect the contents

3.4 stacking test

test where a certain load is applied to the test sample to evaluate sample' ability to withstand static stacking load and the packaging's ability to protect the contents

3.5 random vibration test

test where the test sample is placed on the table of a vibration test apparatus, and is then subjected to non-periodic vibration with irregular particle motion cycles that never repeat exactly over a certain period of time, which can only be studied using statistical methods, to evaluate the sample's ability to withstand random vibration and the packaging's ability to protect the contents

3.6 constant frequency vibration test

test where the test sample is placed on the table of a vibration test apparatus, and is then vibrated according to specified waveform, vibration acceleration, and constant frequency conditions for a certain period of time, to evaluate the sample's ability to withstand constant frequency vibration and the packaging's ability to protect the contents

4 Marking of shipping containers

If the shipping container is a corrugated box with a seam consisting of one side face and one end face, place the shipping container in the prescribed transportation direction, rotate it so that the seam is located on the right front of the marking personnel, and then mark the shipping container as shown in Figure 1.

If the shipping container is not a corrugated box or does not have a seam consisting of one side face and one end face, place the shipping container in the prescribed transportation direction, rotate it so that any of its smallest faces is facing the marking personnel, and then mark the shipping container as shown in Figure 1.

The edges are marked with the numbers of two faces, for example, edge 1-2, which is the edge formed by face 1 and face 2.

The corners are marked with the numbers of three faces, for example, corner 2-3-5, which is the corner formed by face 2, face 3, and face 5.
