3 Terms and definitions

3.1 Waveform

The applied stress (load) or strain (displacement) changes cyclically with time.

Note. Common waveforms are sine wave, square wave, sawtooth wave, triangle wave and so on. An example of a sine wave with constant amplitude and constant frequency is shown in Figure 1.

3.2 Cycle

From any point on the waveform to the next occurrence of the same point, a single complete waveform, and repeated.

3.3 The type of cycle typeofcycle

Waveform and zero stress (strain) the location of the relationship.
