Scope

GB/T 35392-2017 is the English-translated version of 无损检测 电导率电磁(涡流)测定方法.

GB/T 35392-2017 is a non-destructive testing standard that lays down how to determine the electrical conductivity of non-ferromagnetic metals by the electromagnetic, or eddy-current, method.

Clause 1 states that it applies to instruments that give a direct reading of the conductivity value and does not apply to eddy-current instruments that cannot provide such a reading, and that it covers uncoated flat or slightly curved metal surfaces as well as surfaces carrying a thin non-conductive coating.

The same clause states that the method may be used for sorting metals, and that the factors affecting the sorting result include the type of alloy, ageing, cold deformation, heat treatment, uneven heating or overheating, and corrosion; a note adds that conductivity measured with eddy-current instruments is generally expressed as a percentage of the International Annealed Copper Standard, the conductivity of internationally annealed copper at 20 degrees Celsius being 0.58 by 10 to the eighth siemens per metre and defined as 100% IACS.

Clause 3 adopts the definitions of GB/T 12604.6 and adds the temperature coefficient of conductivity, the fractional or percentage change in conductivity per degree Celsius of temperature change.

Clause 4 sets out the purpose of the method, which is to determine the conductivity of non-ferromagnetic materials by the absolute coil method together with standard test blocks of known conductivity, and lists what can be assessed by combining conductivity test blocks with the eddy-current technique: the composition of the metal or alloy, the type of heat treatment, which for aluminium is to be used together with hardness measurement, the degree of ageing of the alloy, the effects of corrosion, and thermal damage.

Clause 5 then deals with the limitations of the method, noting that the results listed in 4.2 depend on how much the conductivity is changed by the relevant variables.

Clause 2 cites GB/T 9445 on the qualification and certification of non-destructive testing personnel and GB/T 12604.6 on eddy-current testing terminology, and the standard is administered by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Non-destructive Testing (SAC/TC 56). It was issued on 29 December 2017 and has applied since 1 April 2018.

Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

1 Scope

This standard specifies the use of electromagnetic (eddy current) technology to determine non-ferromagnetic metal conductivity method.

This standard applies to direct reading of conductivity values of the instrument does not apply to the direct conductivity of the eddy current instrument can not provide readings.

This standard applies to uncoated or thin non-conductive coating of flat or micro-curved surface metal.

This standard can be used for metal sorting, the factors that affect the sorting results include the type of alloy, aging, cold deformation, heat treatment, uneven heating or Overheating and corrosion.

Note: Conductivity is generally expressed as a percentage of the international standard of annealed copper conductivity when measured by eddy current instruments. International annealing of copper at 20 °C Conductivity was 0.58 x 10^8 S/m, defined as 100% IACS.

3 Terms and definitions

GB/T 12604.6 defined and the following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Conductivity temperature coefficient

Temperature change Conductivity fraction or percentage change per degree Celsius.

4 Purpose

4.1 When used with standard test blocks of known conductivity values, the absolute coil method is used to determine the conductivity of non-ferromagnetic materials.

4.2 When using the conductivity of the test block combined with electromagnetic (eddy current) technology can be measured.

a) metal or alloy composition;

b) Type of heat treatment (for aluminum, this method should be used together with hardness measurement);

c) the degree of aging of the alloy;

d) Corrosion effects;

e) Thermal damage.

5 Limitations

5.1 Test results in 4.2 depend on the amount of change in conductivity caused by the relevant variables. If the conductivity is greatly affected by the relevant variables,
